5/9/2021 0 Comments Week Eleven: STRESSED!The Problem with May.It's a power struggle finding balance. Life for me has three categories: social, sleep, and school.
To be honest, I haven't been sleeping well, barely getting enough sleep to stay awake throughout the day and that's because my day's pattern goes as: social, school, social, school, social, school, sleep. I don't have much for this blog update because honestly I haven't made a single dent in the project. I've been struggling to even do my daily work for school, the motivation and time isn't there for me to give my best. I know just writing this much isn't going to give me a good grade, but I don't have anything else to say; so that's it, I guess, see you next week when everything is due.

5/2/2021 0 Comments Week Ten: STRESS!The Truth...As school is coming to an end for the 2020-2021 year, the workload has become suffocating. My problem is that I can't balance my school life, social life, and sleep schedule efficiently nowadays, so I've been slacking in all of my classes. This slack has caused me to pick and choose what matters most, and in terms of short-term priorities everything else takes priority. I haven't touched the sketch in two weeks, and I know how bad that sounds. Time is running out cause presentations start May 18, leaving me with 16 more days until then. I know the odds don't sound well, but honestly I work the best with ticking deadlines--hopefully, that will work now cause I don't really have any self-control left in me. A Panicked Plan!My plan is to go with the flow. That is very bad, but I know myself so hopefully the pressure of getting a good grade so I don't get grounded by my parents will motivate me to work finish it in the next 16 days. Along with that, I should start working on my final presentation, so I'll do that right before presentation day cause that's when the sketch will be (hopefully) done.
The panic has set in. Now, the motivation behind my chosen project needs to return. I'll get back to you next week, hopefully with progress because hope is the only thing remaining with the project. 4/25/2021 0 Comments Week Nine: No Progress...
The "plan" moving forward.I don't have one.
This is the case because I tend to do better without a plan; plans are restricting and cause me to rebel against them. So, I guess my new "plan" is to work on it whenever I feel like it. Hopefully this will be a better strategy, but I won't know until a week later, so I guess I'll see you then. 4/18/2021 0 Comments Week Eight: Backtracking Too Late!
Setbacks & Plans For The Future...So, at first glance, it is evident that I didn't get to work on the sketch over Spring Break. I don't have an excuse for this; life caught up to me and so I wasn't able to do it, which puts a lot more stress on my shoulders.
I guess my trial plan for this week is to dedicate 25 to 30 minutes each day on the project. If it works, then I'll keep doing that, or else one day I'm going to have to sit down the entire day and work on it till it's pretty much done.
Plans over Spring Break.During Spring Break, I plan on working on the details and hands for the sketch because I'll be in quarantine and unable to do anything else anyways. So, that is why I will willingly spend time on this project and make it easier for remaining portion of the project.
3/24/2021 0 Comments Week Six: Outlining Process!!
The Plan for Next Week.My plan for the coming week is to work on everyone's hands, as until I don't fix that it will be hard to focus on other parts of the sketch. This should take me about 30 minutes to 45 minutes, which is the maximum amount of time I will be able to spend on it due to Spring Break preparations also happening that week.
Once I am back home from my Spring Break trip, I will be able to use the rest of the free days to work on this project which will lead me to finish at a good rate than I have been progressing so far. 3/21/2021 0 Comments Week Five: A Little More Progress!
Next Week's Plans + Spring Break Plans...Next week, I hope to get another square completely done. Right now, I am not making as much progress as I want to--I guess I didn't really account how hard this would truly be, which is why I am where I am now in my progress with this drawing.
During Spring Break, I plan on optimizing the time I have when I will be in quarantine towards this project. Hopefully then, I can get all of the outlining done and parts of the shading. But then again, who knows what the future holds? 3/14/2021 0 Comments Week Four: Progress!Grid Method Line UpAfter doing some quick math, I have finally got the grid method set up. The reference photo is six inches by four inches, while the big poster board for the final product is fifteen inches by ten inches. This means I have to get three squares done per week as I only have eight weeks to do this (now seven weeks). I have started by doing the outline of the sketch, and then only will I start shading the picture. Thankfully, I have done the work needed for this week--finally making some sort of progress for this Genius Hour project. Final Picture ProgressAs seen in the picture above, I have outlined the sixteen which is prevalent in nine squares. Afterwards, I am going to go in and shade those squares during week five.
Anyways, that is my plan for now and hopefully I will flourish at following it. 3/7/2021 0 Comments Week 3: SetbackWhat I have done this week?I edited the reference picture (shown below) so it would be black and white and easier to sketch. Then I worked on making the grid for the poster board and the reference picture. However, this where the setback comes into play. What is the setback?I still haven't figured out the correct measurements to make the grid work, which is why I haven't been able to start sketching yet. This week was busy in a school sense and in a personal sense, so I wasn't able to use two hours of the time I planned on taking to spend on this project, which only goes on to add more work in the future. What is my plan now?I plan on having the actual grids (for the reference photo and the project board) done and two squares of the grid sketched before the end of week four. By doing this, my plan isn't thrown off by a lot and I will be able to make it up by doing an extra square each week for two weeks only, if I don't face another setback.
2/28/2021 0 Comments Week 2: Getting a StartAccording to my plan, this week was dedicated to getting a few rough practice sketches in off of YouTube and picking a family photo. Both of these things were done on February 24, 2021. Rough SketchesFirstly, I started off finding videos for sketching hair and watched a few of them, before finding one I thought was fairly easy and replicated on my sketchbook. Then, I went and found a video for sketching eyes to practice sketch as well. Slowly, I moved onto noses and lips--giving myself the chance to improve sketching facial features. All four of the sketches are in my sketchbook, I would show them except it isn't with me at the moment, so I will make sure to show it during my next blog. Family PictureAfter a bit of deliberating, my parents and I settled on a photo from my sixteenth birthday party. Although, I now that have a photo, I am still going to go in during my free time and edit the picture a bit to make it look more fancy than it is. So, the photo below is the unedited version of the picture we picked. Plan for Next WeekFor the next week, my plan is to get my poster board and make the grid, so I can sketch using the reference photo. Along with that, I plan on editing the photo and cropping it so it will be easier to get the even dimensions I want.
